A lot of people have wondered what will happen next as far as supply of guns and ammo. I cannot predict the future and and won't pretend to but I do have a gut feeling about it.
Around election time last year some people got caught with little or no supplies and with the school shootings and the election outcome there was a lot of talk about gun bans and ammo taxes and background checks and registration etc. which resulted in panic buying, I remember saying back then it will pass in a few months and it has.
The gun control issue for now seems dead in the Senate (I said for NOW) but it will be back, my guess is after the next election. You see gun control is a 'third rail' to most politicians and the Democrats don't want to appear anti-gun because they desperately need the House back next November to further their dismantling of the Constitution.
I remember just three or four months ago AR15's were out of stock and fetching $2000 and up. and ammo such as 9mm was non-existent. Gun and ammo manufacturers are capitalists and they are cranking out their wares in overtime to meet the demand and it is starting to catch up. I personally saw a few days ago at a large gun store stacks of complete AR15's made by CMMG for $649 and Bushmasters for $719. Today at a local big chain sports store I saw plenty of 9mm for $10.99 for a box of 50 so supply is coming back for now. I have a hunch that once supply passes demand there will be a glut and you will see some good sales prices maybe in as little as two or three months.
If you got caught shorthanded last time I think you dodged a bullet and if you are patient you will be rewarded with the ability to build up supplies but be warned the anti-gun crowd will be back with a vengeance at some point, probably after November 2014 and the next time there is an ammo and gun ban scare it may be for real.
Anyway this is just my opinion, I may be all wrong so take it for what it's worth. However if you get caught short again shame on you.
My husband has seen some things coming back in stock here in Oklahoma too. I think your right about stocking up now and not waiting, good post.
ReplyDeleteKelly, I do think prices and availability will improve somewhat. Thanks.
DeleteI believe you're correct, Duke. We're seeing some of the more-scarce calibers hitting the shelves a bit at a time, already.
ReplyDeleteRev Paul, I think some areas will see some rebound before others but I agree. 22LR is still scarce but I believe it will return also.
DeleteDarn straight. I've always been OCD on ammo, especially reloading it (and I bought tons back when surplus was dirt cheap and everywhere) so I didn't have to curtail my shooting this time around but I still run scarce on shooting buddies because so many of them are short. (And I do share, but let's not get ridiculous.) One thing the new prices and availability have helped reinforce though is that each round is precious; take an extra second or two and make each shot count for something.
ReplyDeleteMurphy, Good points, I like reloading as also and those supplies are picking up a little as well. Thanks.
DeleteLike Murphy, and as you know, I was able to ride out this silliness with a smile on my face. I agree, the next election might just find us all dug in deep.
ReplyDeleteStephen, I refrained from rubbing it in but seeing as you brought it up, there was a few of us who laughed at the last round of panic buying.
DeleteDuke,
ReplyDeleteI was the one that purchased that case of Federal .223 for $450.00 and was asking if should sell it or keep it.
I decided to keep it. I agree with your above assessment. Short term, ammo and guns will go down in price and be more available. As soon as some "fruitcake senator craps all over herself" and goes on an anti-gun rampage, the gig is up and its back to panic buying and ever man for himself and I can sell that case for $2000 if I want (I think I will save it so I can shoot possums and eat them)
In Texas possums are the size of German Shepards.
Anon, that will work as well.
DeleteSeeing the both guns and ammo coming back into stock especially at the pawn shop. I wonder if some folks overspent in a panic and now are selling off to get some cash in hand?
ReplyDeletemyadventuresinselfreliance, I am positive there are quite a few people who wished they had waited it out. Thanks.
DeleteI did a little waiting as I wanted to get my reloading setup going in Jan. HA!
DeleteBut I've been buying up a few things I find at a good price. I picked up over 200 rounds of 7.62x39 for $6.00-$8.00 a box. Thank goodness I convinced my Dad to pickup extra 9mm in November. I think it's possible that he is starting to think I may know what I'm talking about on stocking up.
Duke,
ReplyDeleteWe are seeing the same thing in town here.
Ammo makes for a good bartering tool here especially 22 LR and 556.
Sandy, ammo is and will be a good barter tool. Thanks.
DeleteDuke,
DeleteIt ain't over yet.....
Now that "Dear Leader' is back to pushing gun control, the games afoot again. This time, down in Mexico.
Buy!, Buy!, Buy!
get all the ammo you can.
the communist here are just as relentless as the ones streaming over the North Korean Border in 1950. Gun control, common sense background checks and .gov permission to for everything will be order of the day if we don't fight for our freedoms in the Senate, House and Courts.
Anon, no it's not over yet but with a level head you will be able to find some good deals.
DeleteOur Wal-Mart remains almost empty where ammo is concerned. Fortunately, the four gun shops I use can still get all the ammo I need. The same is not true of magazines. I have had extras of certain magazines on order for months.
ReplyDeleteIn Virginia, we have bad instant background checks for years. We don't need any additional regulations. The feds are all over the FFL dealers as it is. When one closes, they head to his house and pour over his records.
The Obama admin. does not care what the bulk of Americans want. They will move to disarm as many of us as they can, as it is about control.
Jane, Sorry it took so long to update your comment. I am finding similar things here however I have not looked for magazines but I see Midway is getting them back in stock some. I don't think I would want to be a FFL in this day and time.
