The other night I was within earshot of the TV where my wife was watching a show called 'The Bachelor'
Now I have never had a desire to watch the show and I wondered why that was and then it occurred to me, it's because I am such a kind thoughtful person. I do not get pleasure or do not conciser it 'entertainment' to watch a bunch of ladies get their hearts warmed up and then ripped out when they are rejected. It is like taking a few puppies from the pound, taking them home and playing with them, giving them the chance to have a good home then sending all but one back because only one was worthy to be adopted.
I am sure those watch the show would not like it if it was their daughter getting her heart dashed and crying for the whole world to see while everyone thought it was entertainment, I think of it as the ultimate trash TV. I don't know why I even care about stuff like this......sorry I brought it up, I am sure I am in the minority.
i'm right there with you, Duke, buddy - i can't stand those kinds of shows either! probably one of the reasons we don't have regular cable tv...just netflix. i can read the description of the movie or tv show on netflix and decide if it is worth my time.
ReplyDeleteyou really are a true, southern gentleman by not wanting to see the ladies get their hearts ripped out and by remembering that every one of those girls really is someone's daughter. thanks buddy!
your friend,
kymber
Kymber, you are kind to say so. Thanks.
DeleteI've never watched any of those shows either, bit I figure that every one of those girls--girls who auditioned and fought to get on that show with some guy that they didn't know from Adam--were all just gold diggers trying to get fifteen minutes of fame, win or lose. They're as insincere as the guy is and they go on those shows with their eyes wide open.
ReplyDeleteMurphy, You do have a point....maybe they aren't that classy to begin with but somehow it does not seem right.
DeleteOh I never said it was right. Those shows exist and prosper because the viewers like to see people scheme and lie and get hurt. That's what most of these "reality" shows pander to and I find them all disgusting and unwatchable for that reason.
DeleteWhile I agree with Murphy's Law that the girls know what they're doing when they audition for the show, it's still not fit fare for decent people. Some things just don't need to be aired, whether people want to see it or not.
ReplyDeleteRev Paul, I agree. Maybe they are looking for their fame but it all seems a little sadistic.
DeleteI would like to believe that such shows depict people who are rather mercenary and not like most people. I don't think either sex has cornered the market on callousness. I have met mercenary and selfish women, and I have met men who are the same. I don't waste my time with such programming.
ReplyDeleteJane, I certainly don't think women are more callous, it was more my way of drawing attention to how I view these type of shows. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOf course the demographics of the viewers might suggest something different too. If as I suspect that show and many like it are viewed mostly by Women it would mean there is something about it that attracts one gender more than the other. Just because we can find instances of a particular type of attitude in both genders doesn't mean it isn't more prevalent in one or the other and if it is then it presents some other valid questions.
ReplyDeletePP, I am sure there is other reasons out there, I just see what stands out to me. Thanks.
DeleteDuke, I have never fit in with my peers so I don't understand much of the popular culture. I know if you have a couple of true freinds that not only bail you out of jail or in a cell with you are hard to find.
ReplyDeleteNo Sparky you don't have 907 Freinds on face book! you got 907 people that might watch you do something really dumb and be entertained at your expense.
Good friends are rare and will tell you the truth. Thanks.
DeleteYep....
ReplyDeleteIt isnt like women are some sort of pillar of emotional sensitivity and empathy. Have you ever noticed that people who are meanest to women are usually other women? As Al Bundy said 'Why would I want to understand women? Women understand women and they hate each other!'
ReplyDeleteCZ, well said my friend but I am not bashing women, just trying to understand a thought pattern.
DeleteRev. Paul, I was talking to my mother the other day (she's 94). Her generation had Shirley Temple; I had Shelley Fabares on "The Donna Reed Show"; this generation has Honey BooBoo. What does that tell you about the entertainment industry?
ReplyDeleteI don't waste my time watching this stuff...
ReplyDeleteGood decision.
