I went to the gun show today and wanted to give a report. I did not want to fight the crowd but I needed some small rifle primers. We got there an hour early and by opening time the line was probably 300 yards long. I found my primers and it pained me to pay $40 per 1000.
Most AR's were $1700 and up however I did see one booth had complete 'no name' AR's for $970, not bad in today's market.
I saw a booth selling Rock River complete lowers for $399..... not too bad in today's market.
Ammo was outrages. 20 round boxes of 7.62 X 39 and 223 which used to be about $ 6 (Wolf, Bear etc) was now $12. I also saw 'bricks' of 22 ammo (500 rounds) which sell for less than $20 at Walmart were selling between $40 and $75......and I do mean selling.
Before the show opened the guy in line behind me stopped another person walking up with 2 'bricks' of 22 ammo who wanted $80 for both, he could not get his money out fast enough and bought it.
At the reloading table I saw 150gr .308 bullets (pulled) selling for $100 per 500.......I passed.
AR mags were at least $25 everywhere I looked, I was glad I did not need any.
Needless to say not many deals,
Duke out.
Now it's just a matter of the dealers targeting the panic-buyers who don't know better than to snap up everything shooty at any price.
ReplyDeleteMurphy, The dealers love this kind of selling frenzy.
Delete+1 on Murph... Buddy of mine sold a bolt action .223 today in Texas for $1000!!! And one can of 62gr ammo for another $500! (He said he had about $700 in both)... It's STILL stupid out there! But he did find me 600 rounds of -06NM 63 LC same lot for $10 box.
ReplyDeleteOld NFO, I was thinking I should cash in on the madness as well.
DeleteYeah, everybody else seems to be doing that...
DeleteMLaw is right. Prices locally haven't skyrocketed, but supplies are still skimpy-to-nonexistent.
ReplyDeleteRev Paul, some vendors were holding to sensible prices on accessories but not many. Thanks.
DeleteWe had a gun show here in Atlanta and I wanted to attend, but I didn't want to fight the crazy crowd. The last one at the farmers market was packed assholes and elbows. I don't like crowds anyway and this was another excuse not to go. I used to go to gun shows but it is a sellers market and I ain't feeling it.
ReplyDeleteMrGarabaldi, The line was long going in but surprisingly it was not hard to get around inside. The biggest thing for me is a lot of vendors are cash only, no tax no shipping costs.
DeleteNow you know why I worked instead of attending. Fun though, wasn't it.
ReplyDeleteStephen, Apart from standing in line it was not too bad inside. By noon there was spaces in the parking lot and no line to get in but not many deals. It was worth admission to check out things.
DeleteWalmart had 223 under $8.00 a box, limit two boxes per person.
ReplyDeleteBest time to get this ammo is at 715AM based on a conversation from an employee working that section.
Sandy, I guess most Walmarts stock at a certain time. With a two box limit it will help supplies. Thanks.
DeleteSorry brother I didnt make it today. Texting with pirate jim, he let me know how it was down there. I may wait until the fuss is over until I attend again. I know supply and demand, Bargains are to be had with the ones who bought and expect to get what they paided if and when this all blows over.
ReplyDeleteSenior, Judging from what you said about the last show I think it has settled a bit, maybe the prices are starting to turn some off. By mid morning there was no line to enter or re-enter. SR primers sure took a jump in price.
DeleteGlad you had the chance to go, even though the prices were high.
ReplyDeleteGotta cover all the bases!
Very true my friend. Thanks.
DeleteI went to the gun show today, only 8 boxes of .22 were for sale in the building, and they were going at $50 a box! The man said he's sold 14 boxes of 500 round CCI'S at that price. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnon, Glad I don't need any that bad. Thanks.
