Another story about gun sales in the news, do an Internet search and you can find plenty like it.
If you remember the gun ban during the Clinton administration you know for the most part it was worthless because we had a heads up months before it went into effect and more guns were imported and sold in 6 months than would have been in the next 6 years. Same goes for the 'high cap' mags. During the ban they were available everywhere you just paid more. This was because the ban only effected new imports and manufacture of certain items, personal items you owned before the ban were grandfathered in.
Now there is concern Obama will try a gun ban at some point, and we get stories that say gun sales are up.
I am certain 99% of people stocking up believe the guns, ammo, mags etc they buy now will be safe but what if they are not. What if they say for instance that certain guns and mags are banned and they have a grace period to turn them in.
People talk big now but wait till the Government says you are going to prison for owning a certain gun and see how most cave in. It happened with the National Firearms Act of 1934 where all fully auto and short barreled shotguns were banned, they were not grandfathered in. You had better think about it now. It's easy to say you will hide them but what if your neighbors and family know you have them, what if your wife cries and begs you to obey the law to avoid prison, what if there's a reward paid for turning in violators, who else knows your secrets. What will you do.
Something to think about Part Two
Duke, I'm sure you already know about this, but for everyone else...
ReplyDeleteA good book to get if you can is "Modern Weapons Caching" Ragnar Benson. If you can find it locally, .... pay cash.
BTW just got back from Wal-Mart and the ammo I buy there just went up between 5% and 10%.
DeleteMatt, thanks for the info.
Delete<--Couldnt turn Senior in, cause he would have to turn me in as well....
ReplyDeleteWe buy privatly, pay cash, no papers. Like you have said before, buy inexpensive ones, and cache the good ones... Keep quiet, don't let friends or family know exactly what you have or how much. "loose lips, sink ships"
JUGM, I agree. Thanks.
DeleteBeen reading Matthew Bracken, too? His freebie on amazon has me freaked out.
ReplyDeleteI love Brackens work...what freebie?
DeleteYea fill us in on the freebie.
DeleteSorry, guys. It's not free anymore. I thought everyone knew, otherwise I would have posted it. Bracken had put his book, Enemies Foreign and Domestic, on Amazon for free for a few days; kind of an info bomb to wake everyone up. Right now it is still only 4.99 for Kindle-a good buy. Here's the link:

JUGM, at Amazon for Kindle...it's free. Duke, 'ole buddy, you know where I stand.
ReplyDeleteJUGM, or was free for one day....not sure about now.
DeleteStephen, Thanks.
DeleteI don't know. I don't have any idea. I would give them to them???
ReplyDeleteWell, I would not rat anyone out, ever. In fact, I just had a conversation about "if you and your family are starving what would you do etc," but now I am thinking maybe I should stop talking about my guns on the Internet, but I write a gun blog so...
ReplyDeleteI don't think these blogs will hang us yet, in fact at this point information is good. Hang in there. I will probably expand on this later.
DeleteI'm hoping to hear why Arsenius the Hermit went dark. I'm wondering if all his postings of pictures (of his guns) finally caught up with him.
DeleteI would offer "them" the Texan's response to Mexican troops who came to confiscate the cannon at Gonzales back in 1835: "COME AND TAKE IT"...
ReplyDeleteI think they will be a general thought, following through may be harder for some.
DeleteFrom Texas "come for my kids or my guns and we'll start WW3 on the front porch.
DeleteMy predicament exactly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that big ole bottle of paranoia, I'll put it in my head with all the rest. Unfortunately my brain will now "wargame" this problem until I probably think up some downright disturbing "solutions".
ReplyDeleteIf this was a SHTF scenario the best option is to buy a "throw away" weapon. This way you can claim you sold the others for cash and still make Johny gun grabber happy by turning in a weapon. This is all purely hypothetical anyways.

ReplyDeleteWas Katrina "hypothetical"? No, actual military goons confiscated actual guns from actual people. It WILL happen again, the precedent has been set. There is no compromise. I have no "throw away" weapons, because I can't afford anything beyond what's necessary. There is no "compromise" with me, it's all or nothing. It's naive to think government goons will pass you by after turning in "throw away" weapons. The fact that you posted this comment will put you on a list for "further scrutiny". You think they're not monitoring this, and other blogs? I assure you they are.
This is stuff we need to think about.
DeleteOPSEC... OPSEC... OPSEC... do I need to say it again folks... OPSEC...
ReplyDeleteDann in Ohio
Piss on "OPSEC", I WANT the bastards to know there is strong opposition to their tyranny! The more the merrier! Lose the fear! It's about damn time we make THEM afraid!
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree.
DeleteGentleman... OPSEC doesn't mean hiding your opposition or not letting your views be known... but it does mean they are not going to have a complete, documented inventory and location of my tools and resources provided by me or my "braggin' about the arsenal" as I have seen many do...
DeleteBelieve me, I'm here to play for keeps... but I'm not showing you my entire hand up front...

Historical nitpick - the NFA of 1934 didn't ban anything, just put a $200 tax on $50 and $100 products, payable at each transfer.
ReplyDeleteThe 1968 Gun Control Act was worse - licensing for gun dealers, banning mailorder sales, inventing the "destructive device" and the term "sporting purposes".
Then we have the 1986 "firearm owner's protection act" that forever prohibited private parties from registering new automatic weapons. All that will ever be available is pre-1986.
Large diameter PVC sewer pipe and caps, buried under fencelines to screw up ground-penetrating radar is one way to hide stuff.
If there are lists, I'm on all of them already - and my opinions are widely known. Staying silent is just capitulation.
Governments should fear their citizens.
If Osama gets a second term, we could need this information. I don't think he's stupid enough to move before the election. A bigger danger is that he could appoint more Supreme Court justices. Laws can be repealed - justices are there until they retire or die.
Good dialog. May expand later. Thanks.
DeleteI really would like you to expand.
DeleteDear Duke - i am really enjoying this topic and learning a lot from the post as well as the comments. i enjoy the dialogue and like agirlandhergun said - i would really enjoy more!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
Thanks Kymber, I will continue.
