The garden is just about gone, I have dug a few potatoes, the beans are finished along with the cucumbers. The only thing left is the tomatoes. We have lots of cherry tomatoes along with large yellow and red ones. Here are some in the window sill, there is still plenty in the fridge, they are good sliced fresh but I need a recipe for them.
I have a tomatoe pie recipe, but it is not remotely healthy.
ReplyDeleteThose look yummy!
Did I mention, "not remotely healthy" is not a bad thing.
DeleteWow, you guys really peak out in a hurry. No secondary plantings to take up the exited space?
ReplyDeleteThe heat just wipes out the gardens by this time. Usually I try and plant by March first to give it time to harvest. In the Fall we plant greens (lettuce, collards, turnip's etc.)
DeleteI have never seen yellow tomatoes, I learned something today.
ReplyDeleteRob, these taste the same as red ones, they are supposed to have less acid however.
DeleteDuke,
ReplyDeleteWe love slicing the tomatoes (red ones, fresh basil and mozzarella cheese on a plate (alternating cheese, tomato, basil) then drizzling olive oil (a good one) gently over the top and adding a little salt and pepper. There is nothing better than a fresh caprese salad and a good wine :-)
Now we're talking, That sounds similar to what we had last night except we had ice tea with it and put it over pasta. Thanks Sandy.
DeleteDear Duke - first off - i am with Russell - aren't you going to succession plant? is it because it's too hot or something? you are done with your tomatoes and i am putting my month-old seedlings in the ground tomorrow - teeheeheee!
ReplyDeletei'm also with Sandy on the caprese salad - we love that with a fresh baguette! i crush garlic in olive oil and brush the slices of baguette with it and then toast the slices in the oven/toaster/bbq. oh and don't skimp on the basil - just slather all the slices with tons of it - yummeh!
your friend,
kymber
Kymber, We will plant again but it will be a little later closer to the fall, our greens and onions etc will grow through the winter.
DeleteOh Kymber, that sounds yummy!!!!!
