Don't leave Poppy Unsupervised

One reason for my recent trip was to visit my daughter, she lives out in the country and it is good to see her and the family. We had planned the trip to coincide with the birth of my new granddaughter so while they were in the hospital I got to spend a few days with the other grand kids, they call me Poppy.

Sometimes you don't know what will happen when you leave
 Poppy with the kids.

They went for rides in the back of my truck (on the paved road) without car seats or seat belts. They thought that was the greatest thing.
Taken from drivers window, looking back

They wanted a tire swing so we swung by a tire shop and got an old 'take off' and I made them a swing.

Playing, (before haircut)

I decided to make them a sand table to enjoy when the weather is foul so they could play in the basement. I went to Home Depot and for a few dollars I built this with the kids help.

While they were playing I decided they were looking a little shabby so I decided to give the boys a military style haircut. They thought it was cool. I don't know if their mommy will think so but that is what you get when you leave Poppy unsupervised.

  2. A table full of sand in the basement, and fresh haircuts?

Your daughter may never speak to you again, but I still think you're alright.

  3. Hell, we rode around half the state in the back of pickup when we were kids. The nanny's have gotten out of control.

I take two of my grand kids (7&9) to the range and let then shoot. They can't live their lives in the nanny state bubble. They need to get out and eat a little dirt and a bug or two.

    1. Robert, I know what you mean, actually it is still legal to ride in the back of a PU in Florida if seated in the bed. Don't know the 'rule' for kids but this was Kentucky so I had no idea and actually didn't care.

  6. You are a good grand-pa. Hope daughter has a sense of humor. Just tell her the sand will sweep up and the hair will grow back. You're giving them a chance to be kids.

  7. When I was younger, I always cut my hair short in the Summer! Grew back usually around the start of school!

I like the sand table AND the short haircuts!

Carry on, Poppy! You're doing it right!

  9. Way back in the 70's when I was a kid we would also ride around in the beds of pickup trucks and go to A@W root beer was the best treat.
I remember during a major league baseball game when someone blew up a whole bunch of Disco records on the field on Live TV.
I also would ride bikes with my friends every Saturday to go see 'Star Wars" in 1977 at a local movie theater for almost and entire year, over and over again. (I helped make George Lucas rich)

I never got in Disco (thank God) I remember when the drummer to Led Zeppelin died, I remember when Elvis died too. The rock music was better and 60's muscle cars were painted primer grey and got souped up and raced by teenagers. (I still want a primer grey 69' Camaro with jacked up rear leaf springs and crager rims)

I also miss the "Cold War' only us and the Russians had nuclear weapons. There was only one phone company and everything was made in the USA.

Everything went to hell in hand basket since the late 1980's

    1. Anon, I remember that stuff well. You know you are getting old when all the stuff you remember as kids is antique now.

  11. Very cute. Your Grands are beautiful.

My seven year old saw the tire swing and wants to come over and play. LOL She is not adjusting well to apartment life.

My hubby spent every summer with a buzz cut. Maybe that is what lead him to the Marines??

    God Bless
