Onion and Sausage |
A group of us including my friend
Stephen spent last weekend camping out at the Boar's Nest (our main BOL) It rained most of the weekend but it was an excellent time none the less. Saturday night we ate well, I fixed my popular baked beans.
I start out by frying onions with sausage. I normally use Polish type sausage or good quality hot dogs but this day I used ground sausage
|
Next add beans |
After the meat and onions are cooked I add a can of store bought baked beans, almost any brand will do.
|
Brown sugar, to taste. I like mine sweet. |

One of the key ingredients is brown sugar, at least 1 cup, more to taste. I also like to add liquid smoke as well. The amount of meat and onion is not critical, the more the better. I add sugar till it tastes sweet.
Table was set, we had Burgers, Spaghetti, slaw, salad, hot coffee, baked beans along with all the condiments. Add good friends lots of good talk and a steady rain on the tin roof and you have an excellent evening.

ReplyDeleteThe best type of cooking - add "stuff" (insert your preferred definition of "stuff" here) until it tastes right, then serve in pan!
ReplyDeleteit sure sounds like you guys had an awesome time and some awesome eats! you would have died if you had of attended our village's "fishcake and bean supper" this weekend - the beans were runny and cooked for way too long! but we raised some money for the community centre and that is all that counts!
ReplyDeletestill waiting for more details and pics from the overnighter! but thanks for sharing what you have so far! and remember - there's always "Vandura" here for you and Stephen and Arsenius and North and Mudbug and Matt and MDR et al. to camp out in up here...and we only charge $5 bucks a night! but for dear friends like yourself - only $2 bucks a night - bahahahahah!
needing more pics and details, your friend,
kymber
Almost sounds like campers stew. Brown up ground beef or any meat and add baked beans. Done. Our kids love it. We had burgers the other night and the oldest daughter took some beans in a bowl and took a hamburger patty and mixed it together. Campers stew for 1.
ReplyDeleteProudHillbilly, you are absolutely correct, the best cooking is 'fly by the seat of your pants' and using what you have....no doubt.
ReplyDeleteKymber, I very well may take you up on that offer, I have been planning a trip across country and up through the north west and maybe back through Canada maybe in a year or so.
Rob's Bunker, Could be, these are really a meal on their own especially if you add lots of meat. I forgot to mention chipped up bar-b-q pork or beef is excellent also.
okay i am TOTALLY into the onions and sausages part - i'd eat an entire pan of those alone!
ReplyDeletegood eats - glad you guys had such an aweseome feast!
Jambalony, we did eat well, one thing about our group we are going to eat good.
ReplyDeleteOur friend, Senior Chief, sure enjoyed those beans. He let us know for the rest of the evening....poof, boom, bam.
ReplyDeleteoh you poor guys...mental note for next trip: don't make beans. or if you do - have Senior sleep somewhere else - bahahahah!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
And here we go again with a twist of the truth, seemed like the explosions were coming from your side of the boars nest Stephen. I do recall one specifically that could have registerd on the 6.5 on the Ricter Scale.
ReplyDeletethanks for acting as an "alternative" to the MSM Joe...i always like to gather intel from all sources!
ReplyDeleteKymber, Joe keeps us honest.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks so good and the table so cosy, makes me sigh, I need to have some comfort cook out food. Thanks for sharing.
