You know what ticks me off ???

Alright now it's complaint time......a while back my friend Stephen wrote about his pet peeve the 'word verification' block on the comments page. Here is mine, I hate making a comment and reading "your comment will appear after it is approved by the administrator" or words to that effect. Now I understand the reason some may do that, maybe you have had problems and I don't know how it works exactly but I have commented MANY times on MANY different blogs and see this message, I may have written a fairly long response and check back to see if it was answered only to find my comment was never even posted. Now in fairness some of you who use this tool manage it well....thank you, and I am not targeting a specific person as I say this is a continuing problem. It is highly possible the blog system is loosing these messages, might be a reason you don't see more responses.....Just an idea.
Of course some of these are big blogs and maybe they don't want my comments.
Anybody else having this problem ?????

  1. I haven't recently, but has happened in the past. My thought is if you can't be open- minded enough to post the comments, then don't ask for ant!!! My 2 cents..

  2. My spelling sucks. Don't ask for any. Probably why mine weren't posted.

  3. I only have it turned on for posts that are more than a week old (ie stuff that's already scrolled off the front page.)

I guess some folks got tired of clearing out fifteen or fifty Chinese V!agra or m0rtgage r3financing spam from their comments every morning.

  4. Duke, when I leave a long comment, every so often I "right click" and "copy" the whole comment in case the computer burps and wipes it out. If I want a copy of it, then I open a word processor and "pAste and save".

  5. Duke, my friend, I too hate it. Having said that I can understand why some use it. I have never had a problem (of course my blog is only a bit over four months old) I will continue to leave my comments 'open.' Like you said, if they're worried turn off comments completely. 'Nuff said.

  7. I agree that it is annoying. I have a young blog, and during the first couple of weeks, I had someone ask some very personal information in the comments section. I am glad to have the option to view comments before they show up on the blog. Some people don't have the clarity for what is appropriate.

  8. Duke, isn't it my 1st Amendment right for everyone to know my thoughts? I thought that you have to print what I write. Right?

I set my blog to post the comments directly now. It seemed stupid for me to have to approve of what you say.

I've always noticed that Stephen is ahead of the blogging curve around here, and I appreciate that.

  9. John and Stephen & JUGM, I agree.
Tam, I see your point for older post's....like I said I do see the reason people do it I guess I have not had any problems on my own blog so I'll see how it goes.
Matt, good advise, I do that on email maybe I should start on blogs as well.
Rose, Like you say we can always delete comments and I would understand someone do that if I left an ugly or obscene comment but I hope I never do that, I strive to be polite and courteous because you don't know who reads you.
Mudbug, I like that thanks, You still have a right to delete anything you don't think is appropriate because it is your blog.

  10. I never used to do it, but after I started pricking the liberals, my comments section really started to fill up fast with obscenities, personal insults and spam ads.
That said, my current policy is to moderate but also to approve any comment that doesn't fall into the above categories.
Moderation is a necessary evil. Thank Obama's constituency for making it necessary.

  11. Murphy's Law, can't you block certain individuals?
I have not had that problem yet I guess if I do I will have to address it or just delete them as they appear.

  12. Duke - we haven't had a problem yet either. i won't put up the word verification or comment-waiting-approval thingie until we do!

  13. I took my word verification moderation off (never had approval set) and the first day had my first spam. I deleted it and for a little blogger like me, it's not a problem. I couldn't imagine what it would be like for one of the biggies like Tam, though. I wish we lived in a spam-free world. Not the canned stuff, though. Some people love that stuff and I imagine Stephen has cases for the long term.

  14. I dunno. Stephen might like the fresh stuff and has wild herds of Spam near his BOL.

  15. I shoot my spam, like it fresh.

  16. Kymber, That's my strategy also at this point.
45er, My blog is not very big either but thankfully I don't have a problem yet.
Mudbug and Stephen, nothing better than fresh killed and cooked spam.
