This is an old 32 S&W long which has some sentimental value to me, it belonged to my great grandfather. He was a policeman, retired from the force in the 1940's, he died before I was born. This was his pocket gun he carried every day. I have shot it and it still functions flawlessly despite the obvious surface wear, My brother has his model 10 service revolver.
It's a fine, fine, heirloom...I tried for years to get my grandfather's handguns...one of my cousins stole them and within days had pawned all twenty-five of them. He still avoids me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to have it. Thanks.
DeleteSo very very cool. I love the history and meaning to you and your family. I think it will be neat that one day someone in my family will say..." this gun was my grandmother's first gun." or something like that and they will be talking about me! No one in my family has a gun except me, so no heirlooms for me to get handed down, kind of sad, but I am gonna change that for my future generations:)
ReplyDeleteYou have started a fine tradition, good for you.
DeleteMy Uncle had many gun, rifles and pistols collectivly. When he passed, my Aunt gave my Dad his .45, HOWEVER, she originally offered some of them to Senior and I, and was sellling the rest of the lot.But since I did not drop everything and run right up to South Carolina...she Sold them..and pretty cheap I might add, she got ripped off, maybe had she waited on Senior to help her with the sale, someone who knew what he was doing, instead of being "freaked" by all the guns, she would have made more money. -So I guess in the end it served her right....
ReplyDeleteOh well, my boys have a couple of guns that are "willed" to them by both grandfathers..
It's a good idea to write down who gets what in a will so this kind of thing won't happen as much. Thanks.
DeleteDear Duke - i am glad that you still have your Grandfather's gun...what an honour! and i am glad to hear that the beauty still functions flawlessly! that's awesome!
