I was doing some thinking the other day after looking at a map showing all the red states and blue states.
Here is where I am going to get in trouble....It appears (for the most part) that all the hard working, farm and industry areas fall into the red state territory and most of the liberal, tree hugging-bed wetters fall into the few blue states and then it hit me, The Liberals need us, they can't survive without someone to fight wars to protect their freedom, they need us to work and pay taxes so they can have their social programs, they need us to grow food so they can eat, they need us to provide everything so they can live their days protesting or complaining about every little pet peeve they have. Without all the red states they would just have one big hippie commune with no phones, iPods, computers or electricity.
We on the other hand would thrive and do so much better without Liberals. We would have no unemployment, very little welfare problems, drug use would be a lot less, crime would be way down all of which would cause insurance costs to go down. Schools would be places to learn real life lessons instead of social engineering. Wars would be quicker and cheaper because we wouldn't have liberals second guessing everything and we would let the military pull out all the stops. I have no doubt without liberals we would have a budget surplus instead of a 15 trillion debt. People would be responsible for themselves and not want government to be their nurse maid.
Bottom line is they must have us but we don't need them....they should treat us very very nice.
Somebody please point out the flaw in my argument.

Time for a piggish comment.
I was watching some of the Republican convention last night and caught Ann Romney's speech.
I will not get into any politics of the speech but one thing that came to my mind as she walked out on stage was 'pure class'
That is one thing that is sadly lacking in the White House today.

Just Wondering, NY Shooting.
I don't always play Monday morning quarterback but this NY city shooting has me a little puzzled. I know it was a busy city street and I know the criminal was armed and drawing his weapon on police but what would possesses the two officers to fire 16 rounds between them to bring down the suspect. Were they bad shots or just poorly trained. Were they firing blanks or were their weapons woefully underpowered to do the job. Were the rounds going through the suspect and hitting bystanders or were they just complete misses.
One thing I know for sure is you can't get proper training just qualifying at the range once a year, that is one lesson from this. It appears the cops were trying to protect themselves with no regard for the general public all around.
One thing I do believe, if this had been a concealed weapons carrier doing this instead of cops there would be a huge cry from the bed-wetters saying this was proof it is a bad idea to have concealed carry by untrained civilians.
I also think fashion designers should be put on the DHS list as potential domestic terrorists.

Shooting in NY City
I read where a gunman shot an killed two people in NY near the Empire State Building today. Apparently the 53 year old fashion designer was a little ticked off over being fired a year ago.
NY needs some stricter gun laws, what they have apparently aren't working very well or maybe the shooter wasn't aware it was against the law to shoot up the town. Maybe if someone had given him a hug today he would be fine.
Don't mind me I'm trying to get in touch with my more gentle side.

Paying my fair share
I was reading over at Rural Revolution where some left leaning bed wetter left a comment and was whining about Romney not paying his fair share of taxes. The person had commented that they paid 30% taxes and Romney only paid 15% in taxes. My first thought is obviously Romney is smarter than you because he only pays 15% but in fact that 15% amounts to $3 million in real money which is more than I pay in a lifetime. The writer was also complaining that the US should have free health care and free education. What an idiot............I don't know where to begin. what is free????? is public school free? I pay a lot in local school taxes so it's not free.
As far as health care, just because other countries want to tax the citizens to death to pay for health care what make them think it is a good idea for us. To begin with EVERYONE in this country has health care (not insurance but health care) if a homeless bum goes to the hospital they get health care. It is funny that they think out system is outdated however when the ultra wealthy of other countries want care many times they come here. Even Fidel Castro went to NY a few years ago for health care.
This 'fair share' thing gets me and is pure Communism. We don't pay our fair share at the gas pump or grocery store or any other store, we all pay the same regardless of how much money we make.
I want the able-bodied welfare bums to start paying their fair share, I am sick and tired of paying my share and theirs.
This sums up my thoughts exactly.

Shooting in DC
I read on the news about a gunman who walked into the Family Research Council in Washington DC and shot a security guard who had stopped him for looking suspicious.
The shooter apparently was a volunteer at a gay and lesbian rights organization. I am a little confused why this was not front page news on all the papers because I suspect if it had been a Tea Party guy shooting in any liberal office it would be the headline story on every news service on TV, radio and news paper and the opening line would be "Tea party activists spouts hate as he shoots poor liberals"
Even in this USA Today article about it they don't mention the link to the gay group till about the 10th paragraph.
Oh well at least I can rest assured 0bama has called the Family Research Council and asked them if they are all right and I expect a picture in a few days of 0bama having a beer with the security guard, showing his support.

Lets just suppose
Lets leave politics alone for just a second.....lets just suppose you had a company which was worth a lot of money to you. You had to hire a team to run it make it prosper so it would be there for you and your kids and grand-kids.
You have to pick between two teams to run your company and you want to choose the one with the best track record of making companies profitable.
Who would you pick ????

Like I was saying
I did a post yesterday about fixing up old stuff and making it better if necessary.
Here is a perfect example, here is and old farm truck which you would think is just another rusty relic.......
Notice the time on the board at the end and top speed.
This would be fun race against a foreign sports car snob.

I don't like many new things.
I don't know if it is part of growing older but I have always been very retro and nostalgic and "old School" I like to be able to see how things work.
I like hands on stuff, I like grease and oil and machinery.
Believe it or not I am not very fond of computers, I do like being able to use them for research. It's pretty neat to be able to take a modern piece of electronics and find out about an old gun or tractor or anything else you may wish to know about but you do have to be careful, there is a lot of misinformation and garbage on the internet.
I don't care for cell phones, mine stays turned off when I am home (for the most part)
If I want a tool I will go find an old one and even if it needs work I will revive it to function for me. I like to do things the old way when I can. I don't like tools made in China.
There is something satisfying about taking an old tool or machine which is neglected and discarded and reviving it to work again. I think about the hands which may have held it in the past.
I like to be able to understand things. I like to be able to start an engine and envision each moving part and know exactly what it is doing and if it sounds right. I like to be able to pull the trigger and know what each part is doing in the exact sequence to make it fire correctly.
I think that is why I don't overly care for modern electronics, I am sure some fully understand them but I don't.
I don't like that modern cars are computer controlled, I know it makes them more reliable to a point but if they do actually break in the middle of nowhere you might as well start walking. I remember driving old junkers as a kid, I would take off on a 1000 mile trip in desolate areas with a few tools and never got stranded.
I had an old car once and drove it for a long time with a very weak battery which could not crank it over, It was no problem, I could just park on a hill and start it by rolling it with the ignition on and popping the clutch, it would fire right up like a push start. I could fix anything on the side of the road, not so today.
I guess I think about these kind of things in a survival situation, how many people will be stuck without basic things because they rely on the latest and greatest, don't get me wrong I enjoy some of that as well but I don't rely on them 100%
Some people are techno-geeks, I am not, I used to work as a surveyor years ago, we would cut line through swamps and dense brush and find section corners set 100 years ago. I learned how to find my location on the face of the planet with a map and compass or transit. I can find true north with no instrument whatsoever, not a makeshift compass either.( that might make a good future blog)
It is sad those skills are dying. Now there is ultra fancy GPS units which do it all faster.
Like I said, I like old things. My wife used to ask me if that's why I liked her.........Talk about a loaded question, I'm not stupid I know when to keep my mouth shut.

Sad to see
All the liberalism around here is starting to effect the wildlife. These Canada Geese are supposed to fly down here to Florida in the winter and return home in the summer but I have noticed a lot of places around here they are not going back. They hang out at local parks and get fed and are now too lazy to fly home.
It has gotten so bad now their young are born down here and they will never know what it's like to work for their food. I can tell you folks, we did not see this down here 20 or 30 years ago, this is the warfare state at it's ugliest.

Ask me if I care.
Recently while visiting in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee I saw this sign.
While I am not 100% sure of the meaning the way it is written I am kind of sure they did not approve of me
carrying my J-frame Smith & Wesson around in my pocket the whole time I was there.
Oh well What they didn't know didn't hurt them.
On a scale of 1 to 10 my "care factor" was negative 5.

Don't leave Poppy Unsupervised
One reason for my recent trip was to visit my daughter, she lives out in the country and it is good to see her and the family. We had planned the trip to coincide with the birth of my new granddaughter so while they were in the hospital I got to spend a few days with the other grand kids, they call me Poppy.
Sometimes you don't know what will happen when you leave
Poppy with the kids.
They went for rides in the back of my truck (on the paved road) without car seats or seat belts. They thought that was the greatest thing.
They wanted a tire swing so we swung by a tire shop and got an old 'take off' and I made them a swing.
I decided to make them a sand table to enjoy when the weather is foul so they could play in the basement. I went to Home Depot and for a few dollars I built this with the kids help.
While they were playing I decided they were looking a little shabby so I decided to give the boys a military style haircut. They thought it was cool. I don't know if their mommy will think so but that is what you get when you leave Poppy unsupervised.

Morning Coffee
I thought of my friend Hermit Jim this morning as I sat on my daughters porch and drank my coffee. It was so peaceful. It sure beats the busy city noise and traffic.
