You Wanna Know What Really Ticks Me Off ?

Sometimes I get so upset I feel like I will pop a blood vessel.
I saw the other day where the Department of the Interior is offering free passes to military veterans for national parks starting May 19th (Armed Forces Day)  While some may say "cool" I want to grab them by the throat and yell "It's a NATIONAL PARK, it belongs to everyone, you can't charge us in the first place"
You see I think everyone should be allowed free access. I tell you this stuff has to stop. Next thing you know they will be charging us a fee to go onto our own private property, we wouldn't  stand for that would we................wait a minute, my bad, they already do that it's called property taxes. If we don't pay the government a fee every year for an 'annual pass' we can't have and use our property.
Sigh..............sniff..........................................................
Now I feel like a neutered, whipped puppy. Sorry for unloading on you all, I will try and be more civil in the future.
I will go take my medications now.

  1. yep that is what happens when people don't pay attention to what is really going on with the government. much of what we suffer today is because so many of our parents did not pay attention. now gov is even bigger, but soon it will explode and then those of us who are ready will be left to begin again. it's gonna get messy.

  4. You drive to the park on roads that are "free."

But they are not free. Somebody is (at least in theory) maintaining them. In most States that is payed with a user tax on gasoline because it is felt that it should be the user of the product that pays for it.

The park has restrooms, walking paths, etc. at a minimum. They are not cost free. So it comes down to, do you have the people using the park pay for these services, or Joe and Jane Average taxpayer, who may not want to ever visit the park.

    1. I am sure almost everyone has a national park within an hour or two drive from them they could use. Bottom line is we are taxed on top of taxes so why do we pay property taxes especially on homestead property.
The people who visit parks do not even come close to paying for the upkeep if they did private companies would run parks so why are we paying twice.

    2. I was going to mention that DOI and the NPS is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to budget allotments. Right now, expenses, like maintaining roads within the parks, Making sure the water flows to the water fountains, keeping the parks free of the litter that people leave behind, patrolling the parks for safety reasons(such as criminal behavior), and patrolling for lost hikers/campers etc., ad nauseum. All these things cost money, so the parks levy use fees. The parks get $X amount of income, and if expenses cost $X + Y, Y has to come from somewhere.

    3. I would rather give the parks more money in the budget than the crack heads. It has to stop at some point, are we going to pay to walk down the street or beach?, we do pay taxes for those also but they are happy to charge extra for a national park just because they know they can. I am just upset at the tax on top of tax for the same thing. Roads for example are paid for with gas tax, property tax, income tax, sales tax etc and I am sure we could find a lot more.
